President Kennedy's New Frontier
When President John F. Kennedy took office in 1961, there were issues involving what was happening in the United States. Kennedy's idea was to initiate programs that would work towards an equal society within the United States. It was called Kennedy's New Frontier. Kennedy's New Frontier was a plan to target equality for African Americans and Women, health care coverage for those who could not afford it, reduction of poverty, and access to pre-school education for those at risk.
In the year 1963, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. Kennedy's Vice President at the time, Lyndon B. Johnson, filled the empty role of President of the United States. In 1963, when Johnson first became President, he created different programs to help better the United States in the same way President Kennedy wanted. While Johnson created the programs of the Great Society, he further developed Kennedy's ideas to make these programs. These programs were based off of President Kennedy's ideas to create an equal society, and these ideas created The Great Society.
